2025 Sonata: Upgrades, Performance, Design & Trims

The new Hyundai Sonata 2025 is already available in the country, and Canadian drivers can choose between two models: Preferred Trend and N-Line. Our detailed review explains each model in more detail.

Notable Changes From The Previous Year

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata bring new rear-seat HVAC vents for the N-Line, but no other significant changes. There are two trims available for the Canadian market so far:

  • Preferred Trend ($33,099*): 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, ventilated front seats, Over-the-Air software updates
  • N-Line: ($39,699*): Hyundai Digital Key, 12.3-inch colour touch-screen, Nappa leather/suede seats

Infotainment And Technology Features

Both models are SiriusXM Radio capable, have BlueLink Connectivity and have 12.3-inch touchscreen displays. However, only the flagship model has a 12.3-inch digital cluster display. Meanwhile, the base model has a 4.2-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster.

Both models are also standard for compatibility with Android and Apple devices. Luxury features reserved for the N-Line include LED interior illuminations, a 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system, and a wireless charging pad.

Exterior Design

Exterior Design

Both models have LED lights around the vehicle, including headlights, taillights, and DRL lamps. Indeed, the Preferred and N-Line share several exterior specs, like panoramic sunroofs, heated power-adjustable exterior mirrors, and automatic headlights. Still, the N-Line has a handful of exclusive features, including rain-sensing windshield wipers, front grilles, and a new rear bump fascia.

Interior Comfort And Cargo Space

Interior Comfort And Cargo Space

The new Sonata lives up to the Hyundai SUV tradition of top-notch interior comfort and cargo space of 441 litres. Even the base model has luxury features like leather-wrapped steering wheels with mounted paddle shifters, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a memory system for the driver’s seat. The flagship model boasts Nappa leather or suede seating with red accents and power-adjustable driver’s and passenger’s seats. N-Line owners will also be treated to interior ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Engine And Performance Features

The entry-level trim has a 2.5-litre GDI engine with an 8-speed Smartstream automatic transmission. Standard features also include paddle shifters and Drive Mode Select. The N-Line runs on a 2.5-litre Turbocharged engine with great performance: 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. This model also has an exclusive 8-speed Dual-Clutch transmission with an REV match.

Safety And Driver-Assistance Features

The new Sonata has the same level of safety as the other model, and the driving assistance features are nearly identical. Only the N-Line has a Highway Driving Assist, but the following driver-assistance features are standard across the lineup: adaptive cruise control, lane following/keeping assists, blind spot collision warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and rearview camera, among many other features.
