2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
Hyundai's Tucson has been completely redesigned from the floor up for 2022. Canadians have become more interested in wholly electric or electrified vehicles, and the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is ideally placed to satisfy this demand.
What's New
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is in its 4th generation but this model looks very different from the previous. It has cascading headlights, squared-off wheel arches, and arresting body creases that draw the eye.
The interior has also come in for significant changes, replacing all the dashboard buttons with a digital instrument panel.
There are three powertrains available for 2022. The Tucson keeps its conventional ICE gasoline engine but is supplemented by two hybrid options.
There is a standard hybrid and a plug-in hybrid for you to choose from. The plug-in gives the consumer around 45 kilometres of electrically powered range.
The hybrid is fully automatic, and as you drive, the electrical power is generated and used to enhance the vehicle's operation. Less fuel is used for a higher level of performance.
Price/Cost
Gasoline Powered Tucson
The Tucson with a 2.5L GDI engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission starts at $30,454.
Hybrid Models
The Standard Hybrid with a 1.6L turbocharged engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission starts at $39,099, rising to $41,799. These models have a 44 kW electric motor and a 1.49 kWh battery pack to boost performance and reduce fuel consumption.
Plug-in
Taking the hybrid with a plug-in upgrade raises the start price for the Tucson to $43,699, rising to $46,399 for the Ultimate trim model. The plug-in hybrid has a 13.8 kWh Lithium Ion Traction Battery with a 7.2 kW Onboard Charger.
Exterior & Interior Design
The exterior design is exciting, with crisply folded body panels, a bold new grille, and daytime running lights disguised within the grille. There are eye-catching cascading headlights, and the taillights are equally beautiful with their triangular design.
Opening the door reveals an equally exciting interior. There is an interesting mix of textures and materials ranging from indicator stalks with a jewelled finish to a differently shaped steering wheel and a 10.25" touch-screen infotainment screen.
The cabin is bright and airy and will accommodate five adults with ease. There is 620L of cargo space.
Technology & Safety Features
Tucson does not disappoint with technological features. It comes with all the standard safety features and driving aids such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
There is a premium sound system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto links, USB ports, wireless charging for your phone, and heated seats.
As you progress through the trim levels, more technology is available. This includes a remote start and an innovative remote smart park, where you can stand outside the vehicle and slide it into the parking space without touching a pedal.
Conclusion
This new Tucson demands a second look with its dramatic contemporary styling, comfortable cabin, world-class technology, and outstanding performance. Add the hybrid options, and you have a versatile and competitive class leader.
